Performance Improvement

With more than 30 years in the financial service sector, including highly leveraged transactions, Cumberland Capital has developed expertise in analyzing the key strategic elements in what makes a particular company perform well. Correspondingly, it also has extensive experience in understanding why a company is under-performing and what needs to be done to fix it. This includes evaluation of financial and operational results, the organization and management personnel, the industry, the competition, and current business plan.

Cumberland Capital’s role in working with Performance Improvement includes companies whose growth has presented challenges, restructuring the existing capital structure which no longer supports the company’s needs, and assisting in preparing and executing a turnaround plan. Specifics may involve: evaluating a company’s need, creating and implementing a plan of change in all areas of operations and finance, including an equity infusion, refinancing debt, plant closing, and consolidating companies/plants. Once the problems are corrected, Cumberland Capital can assist in the sale of the company.

Cumberland Capital’s affiliations and long-standing relationships include:

  • Equity Fund that invests $1 million to $5 million in equity; the General Partners will assist management in executing solutions to the problems. The Fund’s General Partners have a long history of successes in many industries, including manufacturing, distribution and service. Target market is companies with revenue of $10 million to $350 million, located in the Eastern half of the United States. Sectors not included in the target market are real estate and early stage technology companies. Situations can include any combination of operational, systems or financial problems, including bankruptcy.

  • Numerous secured lenders whose target market includes companies in special, difficult situations, where the lender will evaluate collateral first and cash flow (or lack of it) second. Many of these lenders are willing to lend to companies with negative trends, including Debtor-in-Possession Lending.

Cumberland Capital will assist the owners and management of companies, as well as lenders.
